RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification

This course is aimed at persons or staff that are wanting to become professional lifeguards at a swimming pool. This award  complies with the requirements of paragraphs 140 to 164 of Managing Health and Safety in Swimming pools.

Course Information

Candidates must:

  • Be 16 years of age or older at the time of the examination
  • Be able to swim and healthy
  • Be able to swim 50 metres in under 1 minute
  • Be able to swim 100 metres continuously on their front and back
  • Be able to surface dive and recover an object from the deepest part of the pool
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Climb out of the pool unaided where the pool design permits

  • Read the NPLQ lifeguard manual

Course Administration

Six days 9am to 5pm

All lifeguard manuals, coursework materials and assessments are provided by G & T Training Services are included in the price of the course. All CPR manikins, training resources and first aid equipment are also provided.  To pass this award candidates will be independently assessed. 

Conducted at the site of employment or swimming pool designated by G & T Training Services.
